The makeup foundation triangle: What our community swears by?

You might have tried different ways to find the best makeup routine. Some people like simple makeup, while others prefer bold looks. Everyone wants makeup that makes them look good and fits their way of life. At Unsweetened Beauty, we found interesting insights on using base makeup products in our community.

The foundation is a go-to base makeup product. Some prefer a foundation that covers everything for a perfect look, while others like something lighter that shows off their natural beauty.

Primer is not talked about as much as foundation or concealer, but it is equally important. Before applying makeup, you should use a primer to smooth your skin so the makeup goes on easily and doesn't move around.

People use it for different reasons, like making pores look smaller or reducing shine. One of the best things about primer is it helps your makeup stay on longer, so you don't have to worry about fixing it all day. This is helpful for busy people who need their makeup to look good from morning to night.

Concealer's main purpose is to cover imperfections like dark circles under the eyes, blemishes, and uneven skin tones, making the skin look smooth and even. People turn to concealers to hide small flaws and brighten their faces, giving them a more awake and refreshed look. It's incredibly useful when you haven't slept enough or an unexpected pimple appears.

Our community data reveals a fascinating trend: Everyone who uses a primer uses foundation, but everyone who uses foundation doesn't use a primer. (UB Insights)

People use a primer before applying foundation to make their makeup look better and last longer. But, not everyone who uses foundation also uses a primer. This difference shows that people have their preferences, different types of skin, or different opinions on how well the foundation works.

In the community, 94.75% use concealer, 92.75% use foundation, and 87.5% use both products. (UB Insight)

This reveals that nearly all makeup users in the community use concealer (94.75%) and foundation (92.75%) in their routines, with a vast majority (87.5%) using both products together. This high overlap indicates a strong preference for combining these products.

By now, you must have figured out that the base is everything regarding makeup. Foundation, concealer, and primer are the holy trinity that can make or break your look. But with so many products out there, how do you choose the right ones? Here are some insider tips that go beyond the basics.

First, let's talk about the chemistry of your makeup. Yes, chemistry! It's not just something you learned in high school; it plays a huge role in how your makeup sits on your skin. For a start, make sure your primer and foundation are a match. If you use a water-based primer, pair it with a water-based foundation. Mixing different bases, like silicone and water, can lead to makeup mishaps like pilling or sliding.

Also, consider your skin's undertone and surface tone. It's not just about whether a foundation matches your skin color; it's about matching your skin's underlying tones. Look at the veins on your wrist under natural light. If they appear greenish, you're warm-toned. If they're bluish or purplish, you're cool-toned. And if you can't quite tell, you're neutral.
